March 16 Update

Hello friends,

We are all waking up today to a world that feels very different. The massive closures and cancelations have brought a wave of disruption to our daily lives. Because it is impossible to know how long this disruption will continue, we want to provide clear and frequent communication. Therefore, we are going to do our best to keep you informed about the status of events and activities here at the church. Email, our church website, and the new Bonsack App (Text APPBBC to 77977) will be our primary means of communication, so please check them frequently.

Of course, this situation is fluid and still developing, so please be patient as we will likely have to make ongoing adjustments, but we want you to know that the ministry of Bonsack Baptist is ongoing, even in the midst of this crisis.  To that end, here are a few updates for this week, beginning today, March 16.

  • The Rec Center is open on a normal schedule. The walking track, exercise equipment, and gym floor are all available for use. All classes will be moved onto the gym floor to allow for more space between participants. Also, there will be no pick up basketball tonight to prevent groups of people from being in close contact.

  • All Wednesday night activities have been canceled for this week, March 18.

  • All classes, Bible studies, and group events have been canceled through Friday, March 20. Decisions about events scheduled for this coming weekend and beyond will be made later in the week.

  • The Red Cross blood mobile will be here on its normal schedule on Tuesday, March 17.

  • For now, the Food Pantry will operate this Thursday, March 19. Stay tuned for any updates or adjustments to this schedule.

  • The WEEC (Preschool) is closed until further notice.

  • In keeping with instructions from the hospitals, ministry staff will not be making in-person hospital visits until further notice. We will do our best to stay in touch with patients by phone or by other means of communication.

  • Decisions about worship for this coming Sunday, March 22, will be made later in the week. IF services are canceled, an online presentation of worship, including the weekly sermon, will be made available on Sunday morning.  We will provide further information about this later in the week.

  • As volunteer opportunities become available in the coming weeks, we will notify you by email, our church website, and church app.

  • Finally, beginning today, March 16, a brief time of Scripture reading and prayer will be presented online via Facebook Live at 2 p.m. each afternoon. You can access it at the Bonsack Baptist Facebook page. If you are unable to join us at 2 p.m., it will be available for viewing on the church’s Facebook page at any time. We will also explore other ways to make it available via other online platforms. Join us at 2 p.m. today, and stay tuned for further information.

Obviously, this all represents a departure from what is normal and familiar. However, we want to do our best to stay connected to each other through every means possible. Let’s stay safe and be of good cheer!

Grace & Peace,

Pastor Chris
