Rob Covington

Minister of Youth

rcovington@bonsackbaptist.org

Testimony: I met Jesus as a child at church and gave my life to him. Jesus has been a sustaining presence in my life ever since it is good to know him.

Describe your area of ministry: We serve both students and their families as they navigate the challenge of adolescence together. We do this by engaging students both inside and outside the church in order to show them our resurrected Lord.

Why does your ministry exist? The youth ministry exists to point middle school and high school students to Jesus in order that they may have a life changing encounter with him. We hope that students develop a deep faith in Jesus. A deep faith that will transform both their life now and life into adulthood.

Why should someone choose to be involved in your ministry? Youth are so fun! They bring a zeal and an energy to their faith that is unmatched. We also know that youth have better, more fulfilling lives when they have five or more adults who love them and do not have to. Your presence alone can be that in the life of a youth. Also, occasionally, you will get a donut in the mail.

How would you describe your passion in 1 sentence? To help students see God at work in their real life right now.

Hobbies:

  • I like to run and hike on the trails.

  • Read big books slowly.

  • Cook complicated things.

Fun Facts:

  • In college, I was personally invited to a meeting with two recruiting officers from the CIA. I didn’t become a CIA agent….or did I?

  • When I was a kid, our cat named Splash was so overweight that she was in a biggest loser style competition sponsored by the local newspaper. She came in second.
