Music Ministry
Introduction
Bonsack Baptist Church has a rich and diverse heritage of music. Known throughout the Roanoke Valley for its strong and vital music program, the Church offers opportunities and experiences to all ages in diverse musical styles. With services for those more traditionally minded (Sanctuary Service) and those who appreciate a more relaxed atmosphere with more contemporary music (Community Room Service), you will find Bonsack's musical offerings to be broad. You will find opportunities for involvement in the following areas:
ADULT CHOIR
The Adult Choir meets weekly on Wednesday evenings, 7:45–9:15 p.m. (7–8:30 p.m. during the summer) and regularly provides music for Sanctuary worship services. In addition, the Adult Choir typically presents three major programs a year, at Easter, in September, and at Christmas. The Choir regularly affords members the opportunity to work with nationally-known conductors and composers and has participated in concerts outside the Church, including Carnegie Hall and The Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall in New York. The Choir is open to singers who are post-high school through adults. A meeting with the Minister of Music is required before participation.
STUDENT CHOIR
Bonsack's Student Choir is open to students from seventh grade through college and runs from September through May, Sunday evenings, 5–6 p.m. The students have regular opportunities to sing in worship and also participate in a summer student choir tour.
YOUTH PRAISE BAND
Bonsack's Youth Praise Band provides music for weekly youth meetings as well as special events and is open by audition to gifted instrumentalists and singers. The Band rehearses on Wednesdays and Sundays.
ADULT ENSEMBLE
The Adult Ensemble, By Faith, is a contemporary instrumental/vocal ensemble which provides music for special events and Sanctuary worship services. The group is open by audition to post-high school through adults and meets on Monday evenings, 7:30–8:30 p.m.
COMMUNITY ROOM Praise BAND
A group of musicians dedicated to leading others in bringing glory to God through the gospel of Jesus Christ. We desire to skillfully combine God's Word with music so that we may see him more clearly, and worship him more fully. Instruments involved include our voices, guitars, keyboards, drums, ect… This group is open by audition and rehearses mid week for our Sunday worship gatherings.
SENIOR ADULT CHOIR
Bonsack's Senior Adult Choir is open to all senior adults who enjoy singing, fellowship and ministry. The group meets September through May on Tuesdays, 2:30–3:30 p.m., and ministers regularly through music to area nursing and retirement homes.
ADULT HANDBELLS
The Adult Handbell Choir is a three/four octave group that meets September through May, on Monday evenings, 6:30–7:30 p.m. The choir is available to post-high school through adults with ringing experience when openings are available.
INSTRUMENTAL ENSEMBLE
This group of experienced orchestral/band instrumentalists provide accompaniment for Sanctuary worship services as well as seasonal and special event services and meets on Wednesdays, 7–7:45 p.m.
MUSIC TIME FOR KIDS
Bonsack offers a fully graded music program with age-appropriate groups for children two-years-old through sixth grade. The program runs from September through May on Wednesday evenings, 6–6:50 p.m. The Music Time for Kids groups present a Christmas program in December and a kid's musical in May. ANNUAL EASTER PAGEANT
Each year, Bonsack Baptist presents a full staged and costumed multi-performance Easter Pageant which depicts the birth, ministry, death and resurrection of Jesus. Preparations begin in January each year. Opportunities for involvement include staging, construction, acting, singing, accompanying, costuming, lighting, sound, outreach, food preparation, child care, publicity, etc.
